Provincetown Costumed Boat Parade set for August 6th

Trumpet Players       Flyer's Boat Rental wants to sponsor a costumed boat parade along the shore of Provincetown harbor next summer and hopes that this may become an annual event. The route would leave from Flyer's in the West End of town, move past the Boatslip during Teadance, continue past the Pied and around Fisherman's Wharf into the Inner Harbor. Tentatively scheduled for August 6th, 1999 at 6 PM with a rain date of August 7th this should be a treat for the whole town.

Costumed participants can join the parade with their own power or sailboats, kayaks or canoes or can sign on to one of several decorated boats that Flyer's will provide for the event, including the 14 passenger pontoon boat 'Party Barge'. If you want to use your own boat, remember the route is shallow and the boats must be able to move slowly.

Rex McKinsey, Flyer's Dockmaster, has worked extensively on Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans and will make several figureheads this winter to decorate boats including mermaids, dragons and muscle men.

Rex McKinsey       Says Rex, "Would you like to come play with us? We're looking for costumed riders, decorators, designated drivers, set-up and safety crews. Perhaps you would like to organize a synchronized kayak team or sculling crew, design a poster or coordinate tie-in events."

Flyer's is looking for people to start working on theme, routes, sponsors and event organization. Just email or call Rex at 508-487-0518.
