The News from New York...
1999 maritime events are already beginning to be scheduled for the southern
part of our cruising area. Here are a few of the events planned in and
around New York. Please feel free to add some more of your own.
The Starboard Watch Committee of the South Street
Seaport Museum will hold an "America's Cup Wine Tasting" featuring wines from
Australia, New Zealand and the USA in conjunction with a special viewing of
the current exhibition of Beken of Cowes photographs in the Melville Gallery
on Friday, February 19, 1999 from 6:30 until 8:30 PM at 213 Water Street on
Manhattan. This is a benefit for the South Street Seaport Museum.
If you want to attend give them a call (212-748-8738) before February 17th.
The 33rd Annual Mayor's Cup Race for Schooners and Classic Yachts in New
York Harbor will be held on Saturday, September 18, 1999. More information
may be obtained from the race coordinator, David Rosenstock (212-748-8738)
and there will be postings on the
South Street Seaport Museum's Website.
Several new boats will be cruising in New York Harbor this year.
In addition to his historic (1921) Herreshoff designed schooner
Ventura which is being equipped with a new heating and hot
water system, SailNorthEast sponsor and contributor Cap'n Pat Harris is
introducing the motor vessel Jubilee which will offer dinner
cruises of the harbor.
Bateaux New York is also set to offer dinner cruises aboard their new glass
domed Celestial. Additional details weren't available at 'press
time' but may have been added below by the time you read this.
All-in-all it looks like an exciting season shaping up for all of us here at
SailNorthEast.
See you on the water!
