These photos were taken on Saturday, June 19th, 1999 from the deck of the W. O. Decker, a tug which is part of the collection of the South Street Seaport Museum in New York.

Since there are over 260 images I have organized them into 5 contact sheets and have provided the following background information.

Contact Sheet 990619-1 (images 1 - 50) The cruise began at the Seaport, in the East River just above the Battery. #6 is a shot of the Peking and the Wavertree which are part of the Museum's collection. We proceeded down the East River, around the Battery and across the harbor toward the Kills and Port Newark. #12 and #13 are shots of the ferry terminal for the Governor's Island ferry. #47 and #48 are shots of Robbins Reef Light and #49 is the first of the ships we encountered in the Kills.

Contact Sheet 990619-2 (images 51 - 100) #51 is a closer view of Robbins Reef Light. #73 - #76 are details of an oil off loading facility. #79 and #80 are of the landing by Sailor's Snug Harbor. #96 and #97 are of the tug Kimberly Turecamo.

Contact Sheet 990619-3 (images 101 - 150) #101 and #102 are the Bayonne Bridge. #111 - #150 are of the container facility in Port Newark itself.

Contact Sheet 990619-4 (images 151 - 200) #151 - #180 are more shots of the container facility in Port Newark. #181 - #186 are of the tanker Limbazhi entering the Kills. #187, #190 and #193 are of rotting hulls inside the oil offloading facility at the entrance to the Kills. #200 is the Hess tug Northstar.

Contact Sheet 990619-5 (images 201 - 266) #205 - #211 are of the Staten Island Ferry. We again crossed the harbor passing recreational boaters fishing near Bay Ridge Flats (#213 and #214) and a blimp over the Manhattan skyline (#215). Next we entered the old Erie Basin in Redhook on the Brooklyn side of the Harbor where we found the gambling boat Liberty II (#220 and #221) which is currently unemployed. We also passed what remains of the blue hulled light ship which used to be tied up at Yonkers in the Hudson River and has since come to a bad end (#231). Does anybody remember its name? We emerged from the Erie Basin and rounded Governor's Island (#237 - #239) which now looks like a good setting for an Australian post-apolyptic science fiction movie. Neat, clean neighborhoods with no people... We passed sailboats off the Battery (#244 - #245, #250 - #252) and sandbaggers preparing to race (#246) before returning up the East River to the Museum's docks. #266 is an image of the tug W.O. Decker at the museum's dock.
